Gough Island Expedition 2020

Gough Island is located at 40°S, 9°W – 2600 km from Cape Town. It forms part of the most remote inhabited archipelago in the world and is approximately a 6-day sail from Cape Town over the dangerous waters of the South Atlantic Ocean.

This video summarises another successful voyage for the Ultimate Heli team on the SA Agulhas II to drop off the new year team members and supplies for the South African National Antarctic Programme on Gough Island. The most important role of the helicopters on board the ship is to sling supplies underneath the helicopter to the base on the island. They are also used to transport year team members and maintenance personnel during the take over period. The year team members will be stationed on the island for the coming year to run the weather station and to monitor the birds and seals on the island.
