2. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine:
"This visit happens at a historical moment, really important moment when we are awaiting for a political decision on the start of negotiations for the membership of our country in the European Union. This decision would be a turning point not only for Ukraine but the whole of Europe. When we will start negotiations on the membership of Ukraine in the EU I do believe in that, it would mean several fundamental principles. First there will be no more grey political zones in Europe, second we will ensure a new basis for growth of Ukraine and the whole of European countries and third we will guarantee Ukraine and our people a real economical and social security system."

4. SOUNDBITE (English) Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission:
"First and most important, of course, is Ukraine's accession path to the European Union. I must say you have made excellent progress. This is impressive to see. We will testify to this next week when the Commission will present its report on enlargement. I want to tell you how impressed we are by the reforms you have made in the midst of a war. We should never forget you are fighting an existential war and at the same time you are deeply reforming your country."

6. SOUNDBITE (English) Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission:
"You are reconstructing. You are modernizing the country. We have supported you so far with almost 83 billion euros and Ukraine is set to receive further 3 billion euro until this year. But of course, more and predictable funding is necessary to meet the current needs. So the Commission has proposed to the member states 50 billion euros until 2027 in additional support."

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission:
"We will continue to make Russia pay for its war of aggression. Our existing sanctions have deeply affected the Russian economy and very soon we will propose to member states our 12th package of sanctions, there will be new listings to hold accountable those who are involved in the military invasion and occupation of the country, but also those who are involved in the brutal abduction of children and those who are involved in fake news and propaganda. Furthermore, the sanctions package will include new import and export bans and it includes actions to tighten the oil price cap and finally, we will further crack down on sanctions circumvention.”

10. SOUNDBITE (Ukrainian) Volodymyr Zelenskyy President of Ukraine:
“As far as the Middle East is concerned of course its understandable that the war in the Middle East, this conflict takes away focus (from Ukraine) and I think this is one of the aims of the Russian Federation that the focus on Ukraine would be diminished and it is a fact. But we can handle this. We’ve had rough times before. We were in really rough times when there was almost no focus whatsoever on Ukraine. It was in the media but in among the leaders of the world. But we managed to overcome it and I’m certain that we will answer this call.”
