“My brother is married to two women, one with her seven children, and the other with her three children. He had 10 to 11 family members. The old woman is 80 years old. They took her out in pieces. My second brother had two of his sons martyred, and my other brother had five of his sons martyred, none of them survived. I swear to Allah that there is no one wanted among them.”

“The bombing happened without warning at approximately 10 o’clock at night. After that, the news reached us. We went out. There were no capabilities. You know that the civil defence does not have the necessary capabilities. We stayed there in the morning. The civil defence came and started working. The equipment was worn out and not fit to work. My daughter, Hussein Abdel Aal’s wife, is married to two women, one of whom has seven children and their mother, and the second wife has three children and their mother. They were all martyred. May Allah have mercy on them.”

“Of course, the house was inhabited. Approximately 30 to 40 people live in this house. Yesterday, five martyrs were taken out, out of a total number of about 30 people. Now we are working hard from the early morning, from 7am until this moment, and with God's praise and success, seven martyrs were retrieved.”

STORYLINE:
Mourners on Sunday grieved after at least 22 people, including 18 children, were killed by an Israeli airstrike overnight in the southern Gaza city of Rafah.

Israel has carried out near-daily air raids on Rafah, where more than half of Gaza's population of 2.3 million has sought refuge from fighting elsewhere.

It has also vowed to expand its ground offensive to the city on the border with Egypt despite international calls for restraint, including from the U.S.

The latest attack happened after the U.S. House of Representatives approved a $26 billion aid package on Saturday that included around $9 billion in humanitarian assistance for Gaza.

The first strike killed a man, his wife and their 3-year-old child, according to the nearby Kuwaiti Hospital, which received the bodies.

The woman was pregnant and the doctors managed to save the baby, the hospital said.

The second strike killed 17 children and two women, all from the same extended family, according to hospital records.

First responders were still searching the rubble on Sunday.

An airstrike in Rafah the night before killed nine people, including six children.
Her husband's second wife and their three children were still under the rubble, al-Beheiri said.
