Recorded by Patti Page on October 14, 1950 as the 'B' side of a Christmas record ("Boogie Woogie Santa Claus"), "The Tennessee Waltz" became Page's biggest hit and one of the biggest selling singles of all time, selling over 10 million copies. The recording was reported to have sold 2.3 million copies by May 1951 alone.
Page's vocal was cut multi-tracked with three voices, with two voices, and as a single voice, with Page herself selecting the two-voice multi-tracked vocal featured on the single as released.
