Corn Pudding |The Working Class American Meal from 1828|

Back in a time when Indian meal meant cornmeal and pudding meant...cake? Let's see how foods have changed over 200 years. Today we have a boiled pudding, a common dish among the working classes of early America. A pudding such as this could have been all that you'd have eaten for the day. Boiled puddings were popular among all classes, rich and poor, though those made for the wealthy were just another dessert served after 7 other courses, consisting of exotic fruits and brandy.
All spices used were kindly donated by our local tea and spice shop, Quintessential Riverfront Teas & Spices. If you ever visit Ste. Genevieve Missouri please see our friend's store, which has been open since 1806.
