===================================

In this video, I'll explain 3 simple photography tips that will unleash your ability to take tack sharp photos with any DSLR camera, as shown on my Canon 5D MkII.

These 3 tips are:

1. Shutter speed to focal length
2. Position Change
3. Auto-Focus Point

-----------------------------------
SHUTTER SPEECH TO FOCAL LENGTH
-----------------------------------

The first rule you must follow to take razor sharp photos is simple.

Always ensure your SHUTTER SPEED is equal to, or higher than, your FOCAL LENGHT.

For example, if you are using a 50mm prime lens, your shutter speed must be at or over 1/50 shutter speed. For a 100mm focal length use 1/100 or higher shutter speed.

The reason is that as your focal length (zoom) increases, slight movements will reduce the sharpness just a little bit. By increasing the shutter speed you eliminate that issue.

-----------------------------------
POSITION CHANGE
-----------------------------------

Let’s say you are lining up your shot, you press the shutter half way down to focus, and then you decide to lean in just a bi to get a better frame. That will KILL your sharpness.
The act of leaning in (or back) AFTER you have set focus will throw everything slightly off focus. This is more pronounced as your aperture gets wider.

You either need to:
a) avoid moving back to forth after focusing, or
b) if you need to move back or forth, take the focus again so you have the best possible clarity
-----------------------------------
Auto-Focus Point
-----------------------------------

Most DSLRs have large multi-point auto focus systems (all those squares you see in the viewfinder). While they are there for convenience (i.e. you can change which square if focusing), I recommend you AVOID THAT.

Always stick to the centre square. When you use the other squares for focusing, it may not get the exact level of focus you need or be exactly over your interested area of interest (where you want the focus).

Instead, use the centre square for focus by rotating your head/body left of right, focus, and then move the square back to where you wanted it for the composition.

BUT DON”T LEAN IN (see point 2!).

The key uses of these photography tips are for creating ultra sharp, crisp, clear photos. All styles of photography deserve razor sharp image quality, but these are my most used styles.

- Landscape photography
- Portrait photography (great for school shots/corporate work)
- Sunsets
- Macro shots of products for sale or any cool macro photos you are taking
- Car photography
- Artistic photography
