One of my strongest virtues has always been curiosity. If you really want something badly, but you don’t know how to get it. Or what you’ve been doing hasn’t been working. Or people tell you that it won’t work. Then you have to make it work. You have to find a way to make it work. Because it can be done. You just haven’t realized it yet.
How many times have you had to retry something or take a different approach to something you’ve always wanted. How many times have you had to read a book on goals even just a how to book multiple times before you figured out how to do something.
Your brain just wants to keep on doing what it’s been doing all along. It’s easier that way. It doesn’t take any creativity or any stress. But sometimes you need a little bit of stress. I don’t mean freaking out. I mean the good kind of stress. The kind that lights a fire under you and gets you to start working. Sometimes you should be a little paranoid. Time is not on your side. If what you’re doing isn’t going to work. Then you want to find that out now. You want to fail forward. Find out what doesn’t work, so that you can get to what does work.
Sometimes you have to reject what other people have told you. Either they weren’t willing to push past that point of struggle or they just never really wanted anything extraordinary. Either way, they’re going to tell you what you want isn’t going to work. And in some ways they are right. If you tried to do things their way of course it’s not going to work. You’re going to have to invent your own way.
Sometimes you really have to think outside the box. You may not be the first person to want something great in your life. But you may be the first person to get there with the method that you are creating. Because you don’t know what your path to success is going to be. There’s no way you could know that in advance. Otherwise you would already have your goals accomplished.
Ingenuity is a skill in itself. Whether you get a high profile job or you work for yourself, you’re going to have to be creative and smart enough to come up with new ideas. There’s never a time when you don’t have to think at your job to get ahead. Well, unless you want to be a janitor for the rest of your life. Life is about challenge and you’re going to have to embrace it. So why not embrace it for the big picture. Why not find creative ways to get ahead in life instead of just when it’s your assignment at school or work.
The world is progressing at a whole new rate. If you can think of something, it already exists. One quick search on google will show you that. There are very few new ideas. Which means that anything new is a derivation of something else. That’s why you have to study the innovators who came before you. Ready biographies and instructional books. Read the success stories of people who came before you. If they did it in the past with lesser technology, less resources, and less reference knowledge available to them, then you can find a way.
If you don’t look for a way to make it work, then what? You’re just going to live a daily grind working a monotonous job? You’re just going to live your predestined life mapped by your parents? You’re only choice is to look for another option. If you can’t get hired for a job, are you just going to stop looking? No, you’re going to have to find another way.
How your life turns out is unique to you. I always talk about actionable steps, but the specific details and the execution are up to you. So when you find your own way of making your career, your business, and your life work out, you’ll have created a unique path in life that no one else can replicate. It’s important, but it also special.
