Take Risks When You Are Young - Motivational Video

It’s easier to take risks when you’re young. And ironically the only way to find that out is to grow older. Does that mean if you are old it’s too late to take risks? What is young or old for that matter?
You decide what young means to you. 18 can be young. 25 can be young. 35. 45. It doesn’t really matter. If you have the time, the energy, and not too many responsibilities, you can take risks. And you should because time is fleeting. As you age free time diminishes, energy depletes, and you rack up the responsibilities. Sometimes this happens to people earlier in life, but for others they defer it to a later time.
Now when I say to take risks, I don’t mean to just do anything even if it’s stupid. I’m talking about ideas and opportunities that are really important, but have risks involved.
When you’re young you have less responsibilities. You probably don’t have kids or a spouse yet. You don’t have a mortgage yet. You don’t have health issues. You aren’t tied down to a location. You aren’t committed to complicated job. If you don’t have any of these things yet, you don’t realize, but the decisions get bigger. The commitments get bigger. You can’t do whatever you want any more because it effects other people.
When you’re young you have energy and you’re not strong headed yet. Have you ever met someone who was older and had already been through a lot? Notice that they are reluctant to try new things. They have so many reason not to try something new. Or in some cases, they just refuse to do it. When you’re young not only are you willing to try new things, some people get a thrill just from doing something new.
If you make mistakes when you are young, you can fix things. If you lose money, you can earn it back.
When you’re young and you’re bold. That’s both good and bad. But for this discussion, it’s good. Sometimes it’s better not to know how hard the work is involved. Sometimes it’s better not to know the challenge that lies ahead. I remember reading a book from Daymond John, the successful fashion entreprenuer. He’s the guy who started the clothing brand FUBU along with several other brands. He said he didn’t have a college education. He said that “If he knew who hard it was to start a business, he probably never would have done it in the first place”. That’s a powerful statement.
I’m not saying to be ignorant to consequences. Trust me I’m someone who plans a lot. But you’re going to have to have some level of blind faith. Because situations will come up that you are completely unprepared for. And you have to roll with it. You have to find solutions on the fly.
Sometimes you have to take a risk otherwise there’s not opportunity at all. The most common risk I see among young people is they need to move. If you live in a small town or you want to work in a specific industry, you’re going to have to move to whether the jobs and business are that you want to work with. There’s just no other way. Opportunity will only come if you put yourself in the right spots.
The second most common issue is people are afraid of rejection. But it’s nothing. There is always a different opportunity. Sometimes rejection is the best thing that can happen to you. Because that may have actually been the wrong opportunity for you. Imagine if you were rejected from a job interview because of your personality. You wanted the salary, the position, the benefits. But would it even work if your personality didn’t mesh with your co-workers? Rejection is just like a double layer of filtering. It’s your life and then it’s the world filtering out what will actually work for you.
