We finish out the integral dust collection system on the ultimate shop table build. All of the wiring, dust collection hose, and equipment is hooked up! This table looks fantastic and is now a very useful piece of equipment in the shop. There are three blast gates for multiple tool connectivity including plugs for tools requiring dust collection. Follow along on my journey of building out the "Ultimate Shop Table" for my small shop.

I start by reviewing the components needed (see above) and go over my rough plans for the table. I'd like to eliminate the need to run extension cords for various tools at this table by integrating plugs within the table. I realize that doing this means that I'd be running the whole table off of one standard (in my case) 15-amp circuit. I did several tests to show that even in the worst case scenario of running my table saw and dust collector at the same time - I didn't trip the breaker.

Warning - If you are not comfortable dealing with wiring or electricity - SEEK PROFESSIONAL GUIDANCE! I am not an electrician by any means and some electricians may wince when they see how I'm wiring everything up but these are calculated risks on my part.

All of the table's power runs through a 12-guage modified extension cord into a switch. This switch can kill power to the whole table if necessary. From that switch the power is split between an outlet under the table and two outlets accessible from outside the table. These will serve as my power resources while working at the table.

Next I finished the side panels which mount the blast gates and plugs. I cut out both openings, drilled the mounting holes for the blast gates, and drilled some pocket holes for mounting to the table. After a thorough sanding I proceeded to mount them to the table with glue and screws.

I mounted the doors by installing some full-overlay European style hinges to achieve my "clean" look of the shop table. Once they were adjusted I mounted some simple cabinet pulls that were left over from another project. With the main cabinet finished and the wiring complete I could now install the blower, dust separator, and clear PVC dust collection hose. Almost all of the fittings and components were made by PowerTec and they worked great.

After everything was buttoned up I tested out the table and was very pleased with the results. With the newly placed cabinet doors closed the dust collector noise was greatly reduced. The system worked perfect and kicked on anytime a tool was used that was plugged into one of the three "trigger" outlets. The suction at each blast gate location was very strong as well.
