When to Ask for an Attorney
You should ask for an Attorney as soon as you are placed under arrest and at every opportunity until an attorney walks in the door to represent you. Do not say anything to the police beyond your name, address and perhaps a phone number. Otherwise, remain silent and still. Do not talk to anyone, including other people who have been arrested about your case. ONLY speak to your attorney - after you are released from police custody. Ask for as many phone calls as it takes to get in touch with an attorney.
