The Bureau of Labor Statistics released some new statistics today, showcasing which states in America still have the highest unemployment rates.

As I talked about last week, the state with the highest unemployment rate in the nation is...Hawaii, with a whopping 15.1% statewide unemployment rate.

Coming in second is my home state of Nevada, with 12.6%, which much like Hawaii is struggling due to a lack of tourism during 2020.

Rounding out the top 5 are California with 11%, Rhode Island with 10.5%, and Illinois with 10.2%.

Unemployment rates increased by more than one percent in the last month in: Hawaii, Idaho, Texas and Alabama.

With these insanely high numbers, I think it’s safe to say that another stimulus package to support these Amerians with extended enhanced unemployment benefits is necessary.

Meanwhile, I’ve been hearing about this problem from many of you in the comments, and it’s important to bring awareness to this scam that aims to steal your unemployment benefits.

This scheme, known as a phishing email scam, takes your information by sending you an email that you think is legitimate, but allows fraudsters to steal your identity, stimulus funds, and unemployment benefits.

My home state of Nevada put out a warning to all unemployment claimants to be aware of an email asking for personal information, and to not provide any documentation, passwords, or messages through email.

If there really is a problem with your account, go to your state’s unemployment website or speak directly with a person through your state’s official hotline.

The last thing you want is to have your unemployment benefits stolen by scammers and fraudsters.

Finally, a Federal judge sided with nearly 700,000 unemployed Americans recently on a ruling against the Trump administration regarding food stamps.

Chief U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell scolded the Agriculture Department for failing to address the needs of struggling Americans, especially regarding the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which has grown by more than 17% with more than 6 million new enrollees.

Howell explained that the Agriculture Department’s: “utter failure to address the issue renders the agency action arbitrary and capricious.”

He continued the rule: “at issue in this litigation radically and abruptly alters decades of regulatory practice, leaving States scrambling and exponentially increasing food insecurity for tens of thousands of Americans.”

I’m just glad to hear that 700,000 thousand Americans still have access to these vital resources as we all try to get through this crazy 2020 together.

If you still haven’t applied for unemployment assistance, today is your day to get that money.

Go to your state’s PUA or UI website, provide them with your employment documents, and let them know that you are currently out of work due to that thing out there.

For your troubles, you could receive a backdated unemployment check for more than $10,000.

For all of the gig-workers, self employed, independent contractors, 1099 workers, even side hustlers and freelancers, they did not forget about you!

The PUA was created in the CARES Act with you in mind, so make sure to get these amazing government funds before they expire on December 31st.
