Unemployment Benefits 10-18-20: New State Paying $300 ($400 Million) Unemployment Extension Benefit

On Friday The Arkansas Legislative Council authorized spending about $100 million in federal coronavirus relief funds, including $25 million to help match federal funds for additional unemployment benefits.

Jake Bleed, the state’s budget director said, “The state now has $81.6 million in unallocated federal virus relief funds remaining out of the $1.25 billion it was allocated.”

The original request to spend $25 million was to ensure that Arkansas met the matching requirements specified by FEMA for more assistance.

FEMA approved three weeks of $300 a week payments but now the state is approved by FEMA to allow the state to provide more weeks of federal unemployment benefits of $300.

Good news, Charisse Childers, the division director said she hopes the supplemental federal unemployment benefits from FEMA will be distributed next week or early the following week.”
Up next, the department of employment in Minnesota is at the center of a lawsuit filed by high school students.

According to state law, high school students are not eligible to receive unemployment benefits.

However, the students are fighting back and saying they should have been covered by the PUA program.

The students are arguing that if they are able to work 25-30 hours a week they should be able to qualify for unemployment benefits.

“They want to see a change to the state’s unemployment insurance law to allow high school students to apply for that as well.”

Besides the age requirement, the students are arguing they meet all other eligibility requirements.
And finally, some Nevada Residents have started seeing the $300 weekly unemployment boost hit their bank accounts.

The Nevada Department of Labor announced Friday that officials made a small test run of payments earlier this week and initial payments to claimants within the PUA.

Nevada has about $400 million to give out to claimants given to them from FEMA, which could provide either four or five weeks of extra $300 weekly benefits.

State officials announced, “A temporary $300 per week add on unemployment benefit through the LWA has started flowing in Nevada claimants and should be completed over the next several days.”

We are so glad for Nevada as one of the last few states to get their FEMA money.
