Philip really wanted an iPhone 11. He was 18 and he had no spare money whatsoever.

Philip's family never gave him money for his birthday. Other people complain money is a boring present, but as someone who always received the most bizarre and useless stuff, typically made in China, Philip wished they just gave him money so he could save up for an iPhone. He thought it would make him look insanely cool in front of his friends. He came up with this mindblowing idea: to dress up as a sickly old woman who begs for money to afford medical care.

Philip had heard beggars can make surprisingly good money, and his curiosity got the better of him. What he did was a nasty scam, but this scam was ridiculously profitable.

When Philip's older sister came to visit and the two of them were goofing around, he put on a wig for fun. He tried to present as a girl, acting all silly and feminine, and his mannerisms looked so natural that even his sister was shocked. After she left, he immediately went online to purchase a cheap old woman latex mask. He posed as an old hag and filmed himself with his outdated 1-megapixel phone camera. He looked incredibly convincing! However, there was still lots of hard work to do.

The first thing Philip did was go to a thrift store, but he didn't find any second-hand clothes that were shabby enough. Thankfully, the garbage dump he visited next had plenty of clothes that were dirty and very smelly. Fake breasts were even easier to make. He stole a bra from his grandmother, stuffed it full of socks, and taped it all together. Then he borrowed an old cane that used to belong to his late grandfather. Finally, he procured a begging bowl from his dog's kennel.

In order to fully get into character, Philip needed to move like a 90-year-old, sickly, crooked woman. He was flexible enough, but it was difficult to keep up the act. His body instinctively fixed its posture every time he got distracted. It took Philip a full week to get used to walking like a hunchback.

Finally, he made sure he had an action plan for every situation he could think of. The only thing left to do was map his route. He decided to kick it off with begging in the subway.

Philip was very anxious about actually going out and doing it. His heart was pounding and his armpits were drenched in sweat. That added a nice touch to his already convincing impersonation of a sickly old hag.

He entered a subway car and started begging in a raspy, wailing voice. A schoolboy threw 50 cents in his bowl, but that was all. He tried his luck next to a church entrance. That went even worse. The local beggars weren't too hospitable towards a new contender.

Luckily, Philip had a plan B. He headed downtown, which was packed with traffic. He hit the cars with his cane, demanding money for his treatment right this instant. The drivers threw cash at him just to make him go away. In 3 hours, he made as much as 120 dollars! Next day, he left home early in the morning and worked until dark. As he learned, the most productive hours of the day were when people were driving to work or going back home. His total earnings for the day amounted to 263 dollars. Philip was bamboozled. 3 days later, he was the proud owner of a new iPhone 11 Pro in yellow color.

This would have been his happy ending, but Philip got greedy. He decided to try and save up for an Audi TT. Dream big, right? Well, on his 10th day of work, Philip tapped his cane on a black luxury car, hoping for a jackpot. The window rolled down and a soft voice invited him to get in. Philip was surprised by the warm welcome until he realized the car belonged to the local police chief. The officers laughed at Philip's ruse and confiscated the cash he earned that day. They said that if they caught him again, he would be locked up for fraud. Philip never worked as an old hag again.

Philip admits this was a very bad thing to do. By exploiting people's compassion and gullibility, he essentially stole money from those who actually needed it. Not all beggars are fake. Just keep your eyes open and don’t hand out money willy-nilly.
