The BULERÍAS is a “palo” (flamenco subgenre) that is characterized by its vibrant, spontaneous and festive style with a feverish rhythm and incessant clapping against the beat accompanied by screams and loud voices (jaleo). Speed and agility are required. It is the style which permits the greatest freedom for improvisation, the metre playing a crucial role in this.
The name bulerías comes possibly from the Spanish word bulla, meaning “haste or fuss” or perhaps "mockery/joke", or bullería, meaning " tumult, shouting."
In Cádiz, the bulerías are informal and sparky, as is typical of the cantes of that flamenco capital.
