Deloads are essential to recover efficiently after a long period of intense training and progression. After a while, the body simply becomes less efficient and less responsive to growth given the stress it undergoes. This makes overtraining and plateaus much more likely.

As such, implementing a deload week(s) can allow a person to take a step back to recover and prepare for another go at intense training with optimal performance and progression.

In all, deloads can be a fresh breath of air and can allow for other parts of training to be prioritized such as form. Though training hard and growth is important, recovery should always be main priority.
