Convert AutoCAD File to Shapefile using QGIS | Change Project CRS | Load Basemap | DXF to SHP
To convert an AutoCAD (DWG or DXF) file to a Shapefile (SHP) using QGIS, follow these steps:
1. Open QGIS:
o Launch QGIS on your computer.
2. Import the AutoCAD File:
o Go to the Layer menu, select Add Layer go to Add Vector Layer....
o In the dialog that appears, click the Browse button next to the Source field.
o Navigate to your AutoCAD file (DWG or DXF) and select it.
o Click Open to import the file.
3. View and Inspect the Data:
o Once the file is imported, it will appear in the Layers panel.
o You can use the zoom and pan tools to inspect the data and ensure it has been imported correctly.
4. Convert to Shapefile:
o Right-click on the imported AutoCAD layer in the Layers panel.
o Select Export go to Save Features As....
o In the Format dropdown, select ESRI Shapefile.
o Specify the File name and location where you want to save the Shapefile.
o Ensure the CRS (Coordinate Reference System) is set correctly. By default, it will use the CRS of the AutoCAD file, but you can change it if needed.
o Click OK to start the conversion process.
5. Verify the Shapefile:
o Once the conversion is complete, you can add the new Shapefile to QGIS to verify that it was created correctly.
o Go to Layer go to Add Layer go to Add Vector Layer....
o Browse to the location where you saved the Shapefile and add it to QGIS.
Now you have successfully converted your AutoCAD file to a Shapefile using QGIS.
