𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀
The name Tellaro could derive from "canvas" (tela) for the trade in cloths and fabrics, or from the Latin telus to indicate the dart, the arrow used for defense, or even from the Etruscan or paleo-Ligurian tular which means "village border" .

Probably of Greek origin, however, the Latin name of nearby Lerici, portus Illycis, perhaps from Iliakos, “Trojan”, signifying its fabulous foundation by a group of exiles from the Trojan war.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆
In 7th century. BC, the Gulf is occupied by the Etruscans who founded the city of Luni, to whom Lerici (the port of arrival for Greek and Phoenician traffic) links its history for many centuries. Lerici will then belong to the Ligurians and finally to the Romans, who made it an important military and commercial base.

In the 10th century A.D., Berengario is the first to note his possessions, including that of Barbazzano (an ancient Roman settlement) which will be at the origin of Tellaro.

In 1152, Lerici with its port becomes part of the Republic of Genoa but remains disputed by the Pisans. In 1398, the castle of “Telaro” .....................................
