📋 **𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆** 📋
The origin of the village of Riomaggiore, according to an ancient legend, is traced back to the 8th century. In fact, it is said that a group of Greek refugees, to escape the persecutions of the iconoclastic emperor Leo III Isaurico, after various vicissitudes landed here.

It was only after the year 1000 that, thanks to the greater safety of the Ligurian Sea brought by the growing expansion of the Republic of Genoa, the inhabitants of the primitive hillside settlements were able to progressively descend towards the sea, thus giving rise to the first nucleus of the village of Riomaggiore.

The first historical information on the territory of Riomaggiore dates back to 1251 when the inhabitants of the Carpena district gathered to swear allegiance to the Genoese Republic in its war against Pisa.

The territory of Riomaggiore later passed between the domains of Nicolò Fieschi, from whom it was sold to Genoa in 1276 together with the other villages of the Cinque Terre and much of the eastern Ligurian.

The Genoese domain guaranteed the Cinque Terre a period of political tranquility and economic and commercial expansion

With the new French domination of Napoleon Bonaparte he returned from 2 December 1797 to the ..........
