Beginner Curly Hair Routine: How to Make Your Messy and Frizzy Hair Manageable and Healthy

Unfortunately, one single product isn't enough to tame most wild manes. And if our hair is puffy, frizzy, messy and unmanageable, sometimes that's all we want. But it takes a change in routine to teach our hair how to behave.

The routine I've outlined here, often referred to as "The Curly Girl Method" is a simple, easy routine to help whip your hair into shape. Just a few small changes to your current routine can get your curls or waves to look bouncy and shiny. Heck, you might not even realize your hair is wavy. Maybe it's just a poof ball. But under every poof ball, every halo of frizz, is texture waiting to happen.

In this video, I'll walk you through a simple, inexpensive starter routine to help nourish your hair, return it's shine, and bring out the best in it.

Below I'll write out the routine in the simplest terms possible. With the visual from the video, this should help to make the new routine stick much easier.

Step 1: Use a sulfate free shampoo to wash your scalp by scrubbing it with your fingers.

Step 2: Use a silicone free conditioner to detangle your hair. Let sit for 3-5 minutes before rinsing.

Step 3: Bring your hair in front of your face, and use the praying hands technique to apply gel or mousse.

Step 4: Rope your hair and scrunch toward scalp.

Step 5: Use a cotton t-shirt or microfiber towel to scrunch extra water from your hair.

Step 6: Apply more gel or mousse.

Step 7: Dry your hair with either a diffuser attachment on your blow dryer or by air drying.

Step 8: Scrunch out your gel cast and enjoy.
