Garden Railroad Portal Part Two - Cement Cliffs, What Worked, What Didn't!
This week we will attempt to make some scenery on the garden railroad out of cement or really from mortar mix. We were inspired by stonework at Disneyland, which is made the same way. Ours is, however, MUCH smaller!
As we had no idea what we were doing, there was a "learning curve". Which is to say we messed up quite a bit. But three steps forward, two and a half steps back and we are figuring this out. The first part involves forming and carving stonework over cinderblock. This worked well. Then we tried forming and carving stonework over pink insulation foam, extruded styrene sheets. This worked.... well.... Not so well. At least the first time. But trial and error. And more errors. And finally success.
It's a great process and adds to the overall look of a garden railroad. As our railroad is built above ground it's important in order to create a more realistic look.
