Tesla Megapack Batteries To Power Huge Solar Projects in Portugal, UK and Texas

There are several updates from Europe about Tesla's Energy business, using a Tesla Megapack or its Autobidder software. A recently proposed solar project in Portugal that includes Tesla Megapack batteries could nearly double the country's installed photovoltaic capacity, while construction begins in a second UK project using Tesla Megapack battery storage.

The Portugal project's installation is likely to require an investment of around €1 billion.

According to the Tesmanian, the Urban Planning Department of the Municipality of Santiago do Cacén, Portugal, said environmental authorities are currently evaluating a proposed 1GW solar power project that will use Tesla's newest energy storage system.

Elsewhere in Europe, construction begins on Fotowatio’s second UK project using Tesla Megapack battery storage.

Global renewable energy project developer Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) said construction work has begun on its second battery storage project in the UK — and the world — with local partner Harmony Energy.

According to the Energy Storage the new project will use 34MW / 68MWh of Tesla’s Megapack utility-scale lithium-ion battery storage solution across 28 separate units and will be optimised for real-time trading and control applications using the California tech company’s Autobidder artificial intelligence (AI) software platform. The system will be connected to the electricity network of UK Power Networks, one of the country’s six regional distribution network operators (DNOs). It will enable the DNO to shift energy stored at off-peak times to help mitigate the impact of peaks in demand as well as integrating renewable energy onto the network.

Also, according to Bloomberg, which I reported two days ago, according to a listing on Angleton, Texas by Gambit Energy Storage LLC, a 100MW energy storage facility is beginning its construction to soon power a significant number of houses and establishments. Gambit was tasked by Tesla for this project, but the initiative and technology belong to the clean energy company.

Initial views of the project show storage boxes, but have no Tesla Solar Roof above them, suggesting that it would be gathering energy from other sources apart from the power of the Sun. The company also aims to power a massive number of establishments on Angleton, with a total of 20,000 houses for the specific venture.
