StoreDot announced in early September that it produced their first 4680 cylindrical cell that it claims can charge fully in only 10 minutes. 4680 refers to the size 46mm by 80mm which is bigger than any other cylindrical battery cell. In August, StoreDot filed a charging time patent and opened the technology to the entire electric vehicle market. StoreDot is fast becoming a big name in battery tech, especially related to fast charging. StoreDot says it can reduce EV battery charging times by some 50% without increasing the cost. StoreDot is said to have officially replicated a cell similar to Tesla's 4680 cells, known as A Series samples of XFC pouch cells.

StoreDot innovation is based on a holistic design process, which integrates the cell chemistry and its system engineering. Their methodology includes a layer of artificial intelligence and machine learning tools to optimize the overall system. This overcomes the limitations to ultra fast charging lithium ion batteries while utilizing standard lithium ion battery manufacturing facilities and processes. They are able to use more silicon to reach higher energy density. They take Nano-silicon and protect it with organic material that is a coating layer that protects in fast charging and fast discharging.

StoreDot recently announced new patented technology that uses a background repair mechanism to allow battery cells to regenerate while they are in use. The company says the new technology will result in longer battery life and better EV performance. The self repairing system identifies a cell or string cells that are underperforming or overheating, and temporarily disables hem in order to recondition them back to 100% performance. The driver does not experience driving interruption or loss performance in their EV during self-repair. This advancement of a self healing approach to electric vehicles will play a major role in prolonging battery life and driving range, as well as improving safety by preventing overheating or any danger of thermal runaway.

In fact, the EV driver may not even be aware that the system is working, as the electric car will continue to perform as expected. EV battery packs are made up of many battery cells. It's not uncommon for some cells to underperform or even overheat. StoreDot's new innovative system targets underperforming cells, isolates them from the rest of the working cells in the pack, and fixes them. The company says this system will work to extend the life of EV batteries, all while helping improve performance, safety, and the overall driving experience.

StoreDot has revolutionized the conventional Li-ion battery by designing and synthesizing proprietary organic and inorganic compounds, making it possible to fully charge an EV in just five minutes- the same time it takes to refuel a conventional combustion engine vehicle. StoreDot's battery technology is optimized for best driver experience with XFC in Li-ion batteries, as well as future technologies for extreme energy density.

StoreDot is now making rapid advancements in extreme fast charging lithium-ion batteries for use in the automotive sector, increasing the number of miles per minute of charge. The StoreDot 4680 battery has been in development for three years featuring tech detailed in five patents.
