Legislators in California have proposed increasing the costs of installing and using household solar energy systems, causing Elon Musk more trouble. The new law will definitely limit solar deployment and make it more difficult to attain carbon neutrality, which is extremely crucial to #Musk since, as you're probably aware, #Tesla is also an expert in solar energy.. The proposal, termed NEM 3.0, would charge solar customers of Pacific Gas & Electric, Southern California Edison, and San Diego Gas & Electric a $8 per kilowatt of installed solar per month grid access cost. In the first year, the bill would provide a temporary market transition credit of up to $5.25 per kilowatt per month for low income residential solar customers and upto $3.59 per kilowatt per month for all other solar users.

Customers will be able to pay off the cost of a new solar plus storage energy system in less than ten years, thanks to the credit, which will taper out after four years. According to the California Public Utility Commission, Customers that install small solar, wind, biogas and fuel cell producing facilities to cover all or a portion of their on-site electricity demands are eligible for the state's net energy metering program.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk slammed California's proposal for new energy metering laws on solar panels, calling it a bizarre anti-environmental measure" that will lead to increased energy costs for customers. Tesla has set up a dedicated web page for consumers to express their dissatisfaction with the idea to California Governor Gavin Newsom and the CPUC. Titled "California, Stop The Solar Tax," the page says that if the amendments are implemented, Californians will pay the highest solar fee than anywhere else in the country.
