I recorded this in response to the Atlanta spa mass shootings that occurred on March 16, 2021. My channel has so far been dedicated mostly to my renditions of Christian hymns and instrumental improvisations. While “Elegy in B-flat minor” is another improvisation of mine, it is also my public personal statement and commitment to the world that I will not condone social injustices of any kind, and that includes hate crimes targeting specific demographics. In the case of the Atlanta shootings, the majority of those who perished were Asian women, and highlights the increase in anti-Asian hate crimes ever since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as our country’s ongoing problem with domestic terrorism and white supremacy. This incident happened on the heels of the first anniversary of the Breonna Taylor shooting (March 13, 2020); we are also coming on the first anniversary of the George Floyd incident (May 25, 2020). I can name much, much more, but will leave it at that.

My humble improvisation is meant to honor the victims of social injustices, lives that were taken too soon because of hatred, fear and ignorance, evils lurking in the human heart. Please note that my recording is not meant to be taken as political agenda or propaganda – it is meant to be a personal reflection, my way of grieving and processing what has been happening in our troubled world over this past year. Comments are welcome, but I will delete all comments that are derogatory, inflammatory, or otherwise inappropriate.
