Don’t make this mistake when training back!
When it comes to training the lats, most movements actually do the exact same thing. Any tucked-arm row—whether it’s a dumbbell, cable, or machine row—will train the lats through shoulder extension.
So instead of also taking a close grip on lat pulldown and once again relying mainly on shoulder extension, I recommend using a wider grip that allows you to train the lats through their secondary function: shoulder adduction.
One close-grip row and one wide-grip pulldown (or pullup) is honestly all you need for a wider back. Add a wide-grip row for the upper back and you’re all set.
