Luxor Temple, Egypt | Nile River Cruise

Ahhhh….spending Christmas cruising down the Nile River on our way from Aswan to Cairo, Egypt. Today we wake up and spend a lazy day watching the scenery as we float by, before docking at Luxor (once known as Thebes, the old capital of ancient Upper Egypt).

By the time we arrive at Luxor Temple it’s getting dark – which added a sense of mystery to this ancient 3500 year old building. Initially a temple, where it’s thought pharaohs may have been crowned, it was converted to a church in 395AD, and then a mosque in 640AD – making it one of the oldest continuously used temples in the world.
