TJ Warren - Bubble Super Scorer
TJ Warren. NBA All-Seeding Game First Team. Walking bucket in the bubble. Warren averaged 31.0 points, 6.3 boards, and 1.3 steals per game in the seeding games while shooting 88.9% from the line, 57.8% from the field, 52.4% from deep (attempting 7.0 3 pointers PER GAME). That’s ALMOST a 60/50/90. He finished alongside Devin Booker, Luka Doncic, James Harden, and the All-Seeding Game MVP Damian Lillard, as the best 5 of the bubble. In the playoffs, he averaged 20.0 points per game on 47.1% from the field, 36.8% from deep, and went 9-9 on his playoff free throws, while also notching 6.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.
“I’ve always been underrated, the underdog, whatever you want to call it,” Warren said. “I feel like it’s just been a pattern and my permanent position just to be the underdog, the underrated guy. So I’m comfortable with that. I love to keep a chip on my shoulder.” (link below)
TJ’s touch on his floater is probably the thing that impressed me most about his game. Indiana's shining seeding game star's in-between game was rock solid. He’s not really a high usage type of guy, he’s quick to attack and is active off the ball - or at least he was under Nate McMillan - but the point is that he isn’t really a ball stopper. Sure, Indiana didn’t have Domantas Sabonis and their would be number 1 option Victor Oladipo was not healthy all season so there were more shots to go around…but it’s not as if watching Warren film would lead anyone to believe he’s a heavy artillery gunner. He’s got the ability to consistently be a three-level scorer, but he did only attempt 22 free throws in his 6 seeding games and that extends out to 31 free throws if you include the 4 playoff games.
TJ’s game will continue to grow. He might not be able to get back to Bubble-level shooting splits, but Warren will prove that what he did in Orlando is far from a fluke.
