Examining Text

Reading historic documents can be a challenge. Watch students build their understanding about the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans by analyzing primary source documents using the Sentence-Phrase-Word thinking routine.

Using digital technology, Densho provides online access to personal testimonies, historic photographs and documents, an encyclopedia, and teacher resources about the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans. We encourage students to explore principles of democracy by asking questions, and engaging in conversations about civil liberties. We believe that by knowing about the human costs and consequences of civil rights violations, we are better able to protect the civil rights of all. http://www.densho.org
