First impressions of Santa Anita Assembly Center - Yuriko Hohri

Yuriko Hohri was imprisoned with her family at the Santa Anita Assembly Center and Jerome concentration camp in Arkansas, and eventually resettled in Chicago after leaving camp. Decades later, she and her husband William Hohri, were instrumental in the movement to demand redress for the WWII incarceration, helping to establish the National Council for Japanese American Redress. In this clip with interviewer Martha Nakagawa, Hohri recalls her arrival and early days at Santa Anita.

This clip is an excerpt from Yuriko Hohri's oral history interview conducted July 18, 2011. To see the complete interview segment, visit the Densho Digital Repository: https://ddr.densho.org/interviews/ddr-densho-1000-353-11/
