Exploring Why

Students can be challenged to think beyond the obvious. See how the thinking routine, Explanation Game, can deepen their analysis of a government newsreel about the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans.

Using digital technology, Densho provides online access to personal testimonies, historic photographs and documents, an encyclopedia, and teacher resources about the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans. We encourage students to explore principles of democracy by asking questions, and engaging in conversations about civil liberties. We believe that by knowing about the human costs and consequences of civil rights violations, we are better able to protect the civil rights of all. http://www.densho.org

Thinking routines are presented courtesy of Harvard Project Zero, http://www.visiblethinkingpz.org
