Let's follow the ethanol route!

Since a little water usually mixes in with the ethanol in the distillation process, the ethanol must be dehydrated, or have that water removed. To do this, the ethanol goes through a molecular sieve, which is similar to a filter. At this point you have pure ethanol, a powerful fuel!

To meet federal fuel regulations, a chemical, known as a denaturant, is added to the ethanol, which is stored and eventually shipped by a truck or train to be blended with gasoline. It's then sold at your local fuel station to be used in your car, truck or motorcycle.
