Can Corn Fuel the Future? Chapter 8 - Let's return to the distillation process
http://www.nebraskacorn.org/
The water and mash that leaves the bottom of the distiller take another route through the plant. This mash is now called stillage.
Excess water is removed from the stillage with a centrifuge that spins very quickly. The centrifuge separates the whole stillage into two products: wet cake and thin stillage.
The thin stillage goes to an evaporator to remove more water, which is then recycled and reused in the cooking process (Chapter 3).
What remains is a syrup that is added back to the heavy solids that becomes wet distillers grains, a livestock feed.
Chapter 9 provides more information on the solids used for feeding livestock.
