WHY YOU DON'T LOSE WEIGHT THROUGH EXERCISE (and what to do about it)

We all know that exercise burns calories. And we all know that excess bodyfat contains calories that can be burned. So why do we not lose weight when we exercise? The answer lies in the fuel your body is using to do that exercise.
You body is able to burn either sugars (carbohydrates - same thing) or fats (lipids and oils). So it follows that you should be able to burn the body fat, yes? Well, yes, but...
Your body burns EITHER sugars or fat; it can't burn both at the same time. It chooses to burn sugars first because other than being burned for fuel, sugars have no nutritional use to your body, whereas fats are essential to sustaining life. In the process of sugar burning, the insulin level in your blood rises (as insulin is needed to transport sugars in the blood) and the release of insulin blocks off the fat burning mechanism. It is therefore impossible to burn fat.
OK, but surely once the sugar is burned up, I will start burning fat, right? Wrong! When you run out of sugars to burn, your insulin level is still high, fat burning will remain blocked until the insulin level comes down, but in the meantime you feel dreadful - weak, exhausted and shaky - so you eat. And you eat more carbohydrates/sugar (energy bars, energy drinks etc) to get through the exercise session, by the end of which you have burned no fat.

The answer to losing weight is to stop eating sugar - which means no more carbohydrates! "No" to bread, oats, breakfast cereals, pasta, wheat products and baked goods, fruit juices and other sugary drinks, sweetened dairy (ice cream, yoghurts), rice, potatoes and the obvious sweets, candies, cakes and desserts. Re-educate your body to burn fat instead of sugar. "Yes" to olive oil, butter, fish, nuts, avocado, eggs, cream, raw yoghurt and cheese, red meat (see our Cholesterol video - link below - if this makes you nervous). And don't forget your vegetables for all the important minerals and vitamins they provide! Your energy supply will be longer lasting and more stable (no more sugar highs and lows) and you will finally access all that stored fat and lose weight.
