S03E08 | Introduction to the Tongariro Northern Circuit // Tips for Hiking New Zealand Great Walks

The Tongariro Northern Circuit is arguably the most interesting of New Zealand's 10 Great Walks. This 43 kilometre circuitous track offers a glimpse into a wild and volcanic past and is a fantastic option for less confident hikers, with many options for access to the track (allowing you to skip difficult sections) and ease of access in its central location.

Due to the alpine and volcanic nature of the environment, many sections of the Tongariro Northern Circuit can be hazardous and dangerous, especially in bad weather, so make sure you are well prepared for all eventualities and if necessary to make the hard decision to turn back if conditions are not safe.
