S03E10 | Solo Hiking the Tongariro Northern Circuit Part Two // New Zealand Great Walks

The Tongariro Northern Circuit is one of the ten Great Walks of New Zealand, and I'm currently on a mission to complete all of them! This track, located in the central North Island region, is an adventure through wild and violent volcanic landscape, with some of the most unique terrain you'll find in New Zealand and a traverse of an active volcano.

In this episode I journey from the cloud-covered and windy Red Crater summit at 1868m down to the Emerald Lakes, the highlight of the Tongariro Alpine Crossing before pushing on to Oturere Hut and exploring the surrounding region. The following (and my final) day, I hike just over half the total length of the circuit in one stint, from Oturere over old lava tongues to Waihohonu Hut, then down the windy Waihohonu Valley to the Tama Saddle before the final push to Whakapapa Village.
