The 48th Annual Grammy Awards were held on February 8, 2006. Mariah Carey was nominated for 8 awards; winning Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for ‘We Belong Together’ as well as Best Contemporary R&B Album for ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’. That night Mariah also made her return to the Grammy stage performing a medley of ‘We Belong Together’ and ‘Fly Like a Bird’; this was her first performance at the Grammys since 1996.
