Republic Day of India 2020 | Fly Past | Apache and Chinook Helicopters
On 26 January 2020, INDIA will mark the 71st Republic Day of India.
The Republic Day parade showcases a multi-hued image of the country's rich cultural heritage and military prowess.
The newly inducted AH-64E (I), Apache attack and CH 47 F(I), Chinook heavy lift helicopters will be participating in the fly past of the Republic Day for the first time. The Indian Air Force (IAF) tableau for the Republic Day 2020 will showcase scaled down models of five systems, including the Rafale fighter aircraft. The first Rafale is expected to arrive in India by May 2020.
The IAF fly-past will comprise of 41 aircraft apart from helicopters of the Army Aviation Wing. The contingent will include 16 fighters, 10 transports, and 15 rotary-wing platforms.
The 'Chinook' formation will comprise of three newly inducted Chinook helicopters in 'vic' formation. Following them will be the ‘Apache' formation comprising of the latest attack helicopters of the IAF.
In September 2015, a contract was signed with Boeing for 15 CH 47 F(I), Chinook helicopters. The Chinook heavy lift helicopters were inducted into the IAF at Chandigarh on 25 march 2019. The addition of heavy-lift Chinook helicopter is a significant step towards modernisation of IAF’s helicopter fleet. The helicopter has been customized to meet IAF’s future requirements and capability roadmap. The helicopter is equipped with fully integrated digital cockpit management system, advanced cargo handling capabilities and electronic warfare suite that complement the aircraft’s performance. The helicopter is capable of airlifting diverse military and non-military loads into remote locations.
The Chinook will redefine IAF’s capabilities not only in operations like inter-valley transport of troops and airlifting artillery guns, but also for humanitarian assistance and disaster-relief.
A contract for 22 AH-64E (I), Apache helicopters was signed with the Boeing, in Sep 2015. First Apache helicopter was formally handed over to the IAF at Boeing production facility, Arizona, USA on 10 May 19.
World’s most famous and battle-proven, Apache attack helicopter was inducted in the IAF at Pathankot, in Sep 2019.
The helicopter has the capability to carry out precision attacks at standoff ranges and operate in hostile airspace with threats from ground. The ability of these helicopters, to transmit and receive the battlefield picture, to and from the weapon systems through data networking makes it a lethal acquisition. These attack helicopters will provide significant edge in any future joint operations in support of land forces.
