The Carpenters - Don't Be Afraid (Demo Version) [1968]

Written by: Richard Carpenter
Produced and Arranged by: Richard Carpenter
Engineered by: Joe Osborn
Drums and Vocals: Karen Carpenter
Keyboard and Vocals: Richard Carpenter
Autoharp: Charlyn Koster
Richard's Notes:
By mid 1968, "Spectrum" has disbanded. Karen and I decided to record all the vocals ourselves and after a great deal of thought, had decided to call ourselves "Carpenters". Recorded in Joe Osborn's garage studio, this version of "Don't Be Afraid" (which I had recently written), was one of the first tunes recorded during this period and ultimately was included in the "demo" submitted to Herb Alpert.
LYRICS:
Love, don't be afraid to love and get love returned
Don't be afraid to tell everyone you're learned

That love is a groovy thing
It knows how to make you sing
Ant it fills up your life with sunshine and joy

Don't be afraid to give all you've got to give
One of these days you'll find that's the way to live
And living is what we all were put on this earth to do
So come on and live and be happy
Don't be afraid to love

Oh, live and be happy
Don't be afraid to love
Don't be afraid to love
Don't be afraid to love
Don't be afraid to love
