Texting while Driving (increase the chance of a car crash by 23 times)

Individuals who drive while sending or readingtext messages are 23 times more likely to beinvolved in a car crash than other drivers. Acrash typically happens within an average ofthree seconds after a driver is distracted.
The United States Department ofTransportation notes that cell phones areinvolved in 1.6 million auto crashes each yearthat cause a haIf million injuries and take6,000 lives.
According to FocusDriven, up to 80 percentof all crashes involve some form of driverdistraction.
At any point of the day, 11 percent of driversare talking on their cell phones, accordingto the National Highway Traffic SafetyAdministration.
A study from the University of Utah indicatedthat the reaction time of a teen driver using acell phone is the same as that of a 70-year-olddriver who is not using a cell phone.
According to the Virginia Tech TransportationInstitute, texting while driving is six times morelikely to cause an auto crash than drivingwhen intoxicated.
