The Chiffchaff Returns, by Quentin Goodman
This piece is about the migration of the chiffchaff and you can hear references to its repetitive call both at the beginning and at the end of the music. It begins in the sultry heat of North Africa, and follows the tiny bird on its epic migration until it drops triumphantly into an English treetop in the Spring. At the end there is a very anorak-ish bird watcher's in-joke. It seems that it was a willow warbler all along and we just couldn't tell the difference until we heard its doleful song.
