Hewing Curvy Timbers for Japanese Timber Frame
This short video shows the rough preparation of a curvy roofing timber for our upcoming Japanese timber frame this fall. Sourwood is a naturally curvaceous tree having very hard wood with interlocking grain.
For these roofing timbers, a very fast and organic hewing is done, not to a line, but just to designate four planes and the corners are also removed leaving an octagon like log.
