Fully scribed Japanese timber frame sills

The little smithy frame is taking shape. In the old Japanese tradition, 5x5 sills frame the perimeter, where 4x4 posts will sit within the beveled edge.

An obscure Japanese method we have wanted to try for years now, fully scribing sill timbers to a stone foundation or wall is a labor of love and art. The wood is air dried shortleaf pine free of heart. Timber bottoms were burned and oiled with a mix of pine tar/veggie oil. A grout of clay sand and salt or borate would also be a nice touch if so desired, this can be placed down beneath the timbers. We didn't feel the need this time.
