Government cracking down on airlines hoarding slots
Airlines deliberately hoarding their slots at Sydney Airport and cancelling flights to block out competitors could face civil penalties under new legislation.
The legislation is set to be introduced to the lower house of parliament on Wednesday.
The new bill is focused on reforming Sydney Airport's archaic slot allocation system, which only allows 80 aircraft movements per hour.
However, the bill will not alter the existing overnight curfew, which prevents aircraft from landing between 11pm and 6am.
