American Bandstand 1964 - I Don't Want To See You Again, Peter & Gordon
Airdate: October 24, 1964
This is probably as close as I'll ever get to posting the kids dancing to a Beatles song - Paul McCartney composed, British Invasion group, 1964...so close. I've actually tried posting this clip a couple of times years ago and YT's unfeeling, song detecting software, living in a world without love, blocked it - probably because it's a "Lennon-McCartney" song. No idea why it's unblocked now but enjoy.
This is Peter & Gordon's 3rd straight Top 20 hit. Today, "I Don't Want To See You Again" is at #24 on the Hot 100 and will peak at #16 in 2 weeks. This song was also featured on a Rate-A-Record last month scoring 85 by all 3 raters. I have the clip, but the dancing was better here - imo.
You can see a quick shot of Famous Hooks dancing to Ace Cannon at 2:29.
This is the 8th episode of the show after it was rebranded as "The New American Bandstand 1965" (New ab ‘65 for short) For this season, the old Philadelphia studio set was finally changed to this new design, despite the show being in Hollywood for 7 months.
...And if you're in the mood for more British Invasion, tomorrow night, on CBS, a group called "The Rolling Stones" will make their first appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show". Unlike the well-dressed Beatles back in February, the Stones, especially Mick Jagger, dressed far more casually. A show manager said "We were deluged with mail protesting the untidy appearance". The uptight audience just couldn’t get no satisfaction.
Thank you for watching…I DO want to see you again :)
