Part 1 - Black Bear Safari - Spotting Bears at Pungo Unit - Wild Black Bears Near Outer Banks NC

Not far from the Outer Banks is a place where some of the largest black bears in the country roam about in mass numbers. We are entering into Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge to spot the Black Bears of the Pungo Unit. A place we love to explore.

With many trips here under our belt, this place rarely disappoints. If you love seeing black bears in the wild this is the place to go. Vast crop fields and many acres of land allow the coastal giant black bears a great place to forage and wander throughout their lifetime. All while inside a protected wildlife refuge like Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge.

The family is headed out from our beach house in Nags Head North Carolina, to head into the Pungo Unit for a 2-part Safari to spot the miraculous black bears of this area.

Ride along with us and see everything we saw. Of course, we might not just find wild black bears, but other wildlife too…and who knows, maybe will even churn up a dust tornado?
