Sleeping Seal Rescued

Naude, Katja and Antoine from Ocean Conservation Namibia spotted a large female seal on the beach at Pelican Point in Namibia. Sleeping seals often look like they are not alive anymore, but this one was moving around a little bit while she was resting. The entanglement around her neck was deep and big enough to be visible from far away.

She did not notice the rescuers approaching, she only woke up once she was captured with the rescue net. She got a freight, but she was already immobilised and could not do any harm to the rescuers anymore. Antoine and Naude moved her deeper into the net and opened the zipper to cut the fishing line. She reversed out of the net once she was freed from her entanglement, and she slowly moved away from the rescuers, trying to comprehend what had just happened to her.

She showed signs of a light infection, but the salt water of the ocean will help her with her recovery. 🦭
