First Friday Live! Guns of the Marshals and the 150th Anniversary of Goingsnake!
Our curator wanted to share a couple of special firearms with you this afternoon! One is associated with the Three Guardsmen and the other is tied to the Tragedy at Goingsnake - the deadliest day in Marshals history! Both are on loan from descendants of their original owners. Learn these stories and how we intend to tell their stories when we open in late 2022!
Related to Goingsnake - We will host a symposium in April recognizing the importance of this event. Experts from the Marshals Museum, The Marshals Service, Cherokee Nation, National Park Service, Oklahoma Historical Society, and other subject matter experts will be at the Museum in April to talk about this important event and the long-term effects of it. Our curator and our education director will talk about the program, the participants, and our plans!
Make sure to ask questions if you have them!
=======================
The United States Marshals Museum is a national museum located on the riverfront in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Once open, we will tell the story of our nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency from its establishment by President George Washington through current day. The Museum will honor the sacrifice of Marshals killed in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to place their lives in harm’s way as they enforce the Constitution.
