The hurricane season this year is all but over, with no more storms likely to form this year. Here is a preliminary animation of the 2012 hurricane season, subject to change in accordance with post-season analysis and any off-season storms forming in December. This video is correct as of November 30, 2012.

A revolutionary new method in detemining how notable a storm may be, particularly when factors such as wind speed - which is the only characteristic factored in the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale - are not extraordinary. For example, if one presented Hurricane Sandy amongst a list of ferocious Category 4 and 5 storms that didn't affect land, it would be an unfair representation of which storm was the most notable, as the strongest storms would stick out the most. With the Storm Notability Index, every major factor of the storm is taken into account - its lifespan, wind speed, air pressure, damages, fatalities and other statistics, to produce the SNI total.
