But where this shoal bass came from tells the real story.

When I first started targeting this species, I made a big mistake—fishing eddies, slow pools, and calm water. The kind of places that are perfect for smallmouth or redeye bass.

But not shoal bass.

In this episode, I break down the difference:

Why shoal bass key in on heavy current zones
How their positioning is completely different from other black bass species
And why this style of fishing feels more like targeting trout or salmon than bass

This isn’t about the big picture (shoal habitat)…
It’s about the micro habitat within it.

You have to fish where most anglers won’t even cast.

And then, at the end, something unusual happens…

A shoal bass shows up in a quiet pocket of water—almost completely out of character. But there’s a reason for it, and it likely has everything to do with spawning behavior.

Even then, most of these fish are still doing the unexpected—spawning right in the thick of the current behind rocks.

Shoal bass don’t follow the rules and they never read a page ofa fishing magazine.
