What's the Real Reason Behind My AuDHD and Sensory Issues in Moving Cars?
As an autistic person with sensory issues and ADHD, being in a moving car takes a lot more mental effort for me than people usually expect.
Even sitting in the front seat, my brain is constantly tracking distance, movement, speed, sound, and changes in traffic around me.
In India especially, with unpredictable traffic patterns, scooters, autos, and sudden lane changes, there are too many things to process at the same time.
After driving for even 20–30 minutes, I often feel mentally exhausted and need to sleep. I usually can’t do anything that requires concentration afterward.
This is related to differences in sensory and vestibular processing.
For some autistic people, the brain works harder to interpret movement, balance, space, and visual motion, which can lead to headaches, motion sickness, and fatigue.
For a long time I thought this was just something I had to “push through.” Now I understand it differently.
I can drive very well, but it takes a huge toll on my brain afterwards.
